Empathetic and Reflective Teaching Practices in the ECE Classroom

December 1 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Duration: 1 hour

Intended Audience: 6-12 teachers

While teaching, an educator should display empathy and reflect on their teaching practices. It is extremely important that we teach this skill to our future educators and childcare workers. In this workshop, strategies and methods will be shared to teach ECE students how to understand, appreciate, and make better choices when working with young children. The high school educator will learn how to practice reflective behavior and build inclusive language into their classroom as a method to celebrate each student. These strategies can be used in the ECE positive guidance unit (ECE 1: standard 10) and diversity unit (ECE I: standard 13), but most importantly in the Practicum course while the high school students are working on their teaching philosophies and classroom management strategies.
