Engaging Parents in Self-Determination Building for Transition Planning

The building of self-determination for all children begins in the home. Families provide opportunities for children to take on more responsibility and control as they develop the skills needed to handle new demands — this looks different for each family. Schools can help foster self-determination outside of school and reinforce self-determined behavior taught in school. Join us to discuss collaborative transition planning and instructional strategies to ensure consistency and a well-rounded experience.

Learning Targets:
After completing this session, participants will be able to:
o List self-determined behaviors needed for students to participate in their transition planning
o Design activities for parents to conduct at home that reinforce self-determination skills taught at school.
