Demystifying Vaping: Preventing & Intervening in Student Use
Recorded Webinar

Description:
Demystifying Vaping: Preventing & Intervening in Student Nicotine & Cannabis Use
In this session, we review current research on the risks of youth nicotine and cannabis use on developing brains and bodies, with a focus on vaping, and translate it into practical, school-based prevention and early intervention strategies that all staff can help implement.
In recent years, youth vaping of nicotine and cannabis has surged on our campuses, leading to destructive consequences to students’ physical, mental, and academic wellbeing, and heightened safety and liability concerns. With products becoming stronger, more appealing, and easier to conceal, they have become more addictive, impairing, and dangerous. Shifting this disruptive trend requires a collaborative, proactive and comprehensive approach that equips students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make healthier choices.
Participants gain concrete tools, resources, and action steps to design and deliver innovative programming that prevents, delays, and shifts student vaping behaviors. Topics include evidence-based Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports, counseling strategies, interdepartmental collaboration, effective parent partnership strategies, and policy approaches grounded in restorative practices.
