This training provides an overview of the legal and educational entitlements of youth in foster care, with a focus on how federal and Georgia laws support school stability, access, and fair treatment. Participants gain a broad understanding of key protections related to enrollment, records transfer, school discipline, and special education, and how these laws uniquely impact children in care. The session introduces the role of the Educational Programming, Assessment, and Consultation (EPAC) Unit within DFCS, highlighting how EPAC partners with schools and child welfare teams to support educational continuity, address barriers, and advocate for positive outcomes for students in foster care.
