Interpreting Last-Minute Talent Shows, Musicals, and Plays
April 14 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Description:
Interpreters in educational settings are often required to interpret school plays, story time, talent shows, and other performances, sometimes with very little advance notice. This session will cover the logistics of working with a theatrical production, collaborating with a team, making appropriate vocabulary choices, and will provide participants with hands-up practice interpreting musical selections.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Identify and explain interpreting techniques specific to performance venues, including staging, sightlines, lighting, and timing.
• Identify and sequence the key steps involved in preparing for a performance interpretation, including script review, collaboration, rehearsal, and technical considerations.
• Identify the key steps involved in analyzing a theatrical script for interpretation, including themes, character relationships, linguistic features, and visual language considerations.
• Identify and differentiate the various roles involved in a theatrical production, including the director, stage manager, actors, and interpreters.
