Description:
Leading Proactive Approaches to Distraction-Free Learning: Aligning Policy with Support
As part of the GaDOE Office of Whole Child Supports’ Student Services Leadership Series, this webinar explores the shift toward distraction-free learning environments, with a focus on guidance, discipline, and lessons learned from school-based implementation. Participants will examine the benefits of unplugging during the school day, the newly introduced state-reportable discipline code, and how policy and code changes affect leadership responses. The session highlights leadership actions, communication strategies, stakeholder perspectives, and schoolwide practices that support consistent, student-centered implementation while maintaining a positive school climate.
Participants will:
-Explain the purpose and intent of creating distraction-free learning environments, including impacts on student focus, engagement, safety, and social interaction.
-Describe essential components of implementation when introducing a no-cellphone policy, including leadership alignment, consistent staff practices, appropriate disciplinary responses, and clear expectations without reliance on punitive approaches.
-Identify practical next steps for monitoring implementation, supporting staff, and sustaining consistent practices over time.
