Leading Through Crisis: Responding to Suicide in Schools

Representatives from the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and the Georgia Department of Education review suicide data for Georgia, discuss trends in suicidality and access to services, review legislation and policy requirements for schools and districts, and provide resources for responding with intervention and postvention supports. Georgia data review highlights recent observations (2020–2024), regional and statewide trends, and key demographic patterns. The audience gains a general understanding of what suicide looks like in Georgia, including which groups are disproportionately impacted and how suicides are occurring (e.g., weapons, means).
