Leveraging Science Practices to Support Language Acquisition for ELs

January 13 - January 27

Description:

Please join one or both sessions, based on your needs, to gain familiarity and confidence with four research-based, effective strategies that support leveraging the Science and Engineering Practices for English language acquisition. You already engage students in the Science and Engineering Practices; now you can strengthen their impact by utilizing instructional strategies that address the language and learning needs of English learners (ELs).

The four strategies that will be discussed are: (1) expanding modeling practices, (2) supporting collaboration through complex instruction, (3) creatively using multiple modalities across language domains, and (4) the fluid and strategic use of multiple languages.

Adapting practice-based science lessons to support ELs immerses students in content and meaningful language experiences, allowing language development and content learning to reinforce one another. Join us to explore how these strategies can enhance learning outcomes for English learners.
