Making Numbers Count: Using ASL Number Systems in Educational Interpreting

May 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Description:

This session helps educational interpreters master ASL numbering systems in classroom and school-based contexts. Participants will focus on numbers for counting, ordinal positions, fractions, decimals, dates, and other practical applications. Emphasis will be on understanding the rules for accurate number production and applying them appropriately in educational interpreting scenarios.

By the end of the session, participants will correctly identify, explain, and apply the rules for producing ASL numbering systems in educational interpreting contexts—including counting, ordinal positions, fractions, decimals, dates, and other classroom-relevant applications—as measured by analyzing a set of sentences drawn from authentic classroom examples in breakout groups, and determining which number form is appropriate and how it should be produced.
