Duration: 1 hour
Intended Audience: District Leaders, Elementary Teachers, High School Teachers, Middle School Teachers, RESA Mentors, School Leaders, Social Workers, Teacher Leaders
Teachers, providers, student support staff, and school leaders can support mental health symptoms in youth when these symptoms manifest as school refusal that may result in absenteeism or tardiness, physical complaints that may result in trips to the nurse’s office, disruptive behavior that may result in excessive disciplinary action, and difficulty engaging in classroom and extra-curricular activities. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is considered a gold standard in the treatment of anxiety and depressive symptoms and has been adapted for delivery within public school settings, including delivery to special populations such as students with autism. It is important to consider and support the mental health of special populations given that as many as 70 percent of autistic youth experience clinically significant anxiety or depression. This webinar discusses practical CBT strategies that can be used to support the mental health of autistic and non-autistic students and ways that these strategies can be implemented within public school settings.
